Dear Freshman,
Welcome to college, can you believe that you have made it this far? Where has the time gone? Remember when you were a freshman in high school and wow you are now freshmen in college. I want to applaud you for all the hard work that you have put in to come this far. All those long nights, frustrating moments and hard times have been worth the sacrifice that you have put in. I have a great admiration for all of us that are first generation college students we all would not be where we are without our parents and all the hard work that we ourselves put in. I am writing this letter with advice that I believe will provide you with help and guidance that I wish I knew when I was a freshman. The transition from high school to college is tough but it is a transition that we all must go through in order to make our dreams a reality.
The first piece of advice I have for you is to visit the financial aid office.Financial stress is a stress that lots of college students face and go through. Therefore it is best to find a solution early rather than later. You can also avoid stress that you do not need. I urge you to talk to them in person because I called many times and was put on hold for over an hour to be able to talk to someone for less than five minutes. The wait is extremely less and also depends on how many people are in line.
Furthermore, I suggest that if you are like me and struggle with math, I recommend you visit the math tutorial center located in Salazar hall. Lots of professor are in the tutorial center to offer help if you are having a hard time trying to grasp a math concept. I would also check to see the times that your professor is available to offer you some extra help if you are stuck. All you need to do is sign in and any professor that teaches math can help you. I know that I received lots of help from the professors there and I was also able to ask my professor questions and clarification if I needed it.
In conclusion, I have to say that the college life is not easy and yes you will experience lots of stress and have to work through the pain that at one point you will encounter but in the end it is all worth the sacrifices that are needed to accomplish your dream. I hope that this advice makes your freshman year a little bit easier. Know that your professors are here to help you because they have been your shoes. Again, I applaud you for making it this far and remember you can do everything that you set your mind to.
Sincerely,
your friend Jenn
